On race day, please park at The Causeway Foot Pub at end of Ogden Lane
The Giant's Tooth is a standing stone on Ovenden Moor above Ogden Water reservoir. The race starts in Rock Hollow, the bottom level of the car park at Ogden Water, and travels out in a northerly direction on the bridleway following the wall on your left. Soon, at a gate, climb and go left, down to the reservoir to a green metal bridge, which we cross. Immediately across the bridge, go straight forward up a climbing track which zigzags up through the wood. At a junction at the highest point, turn sharp left and climb to the Giant's Tooth standing stone.
Pass the stone on your right (and the stone circle) and continue to the fence ahead. DO NOT CROSS but turn left and follow the fence for 20 yards then bearing left to the trees, picking up a woodland path, descending with the beck on your right (Skirden Clough).
At the bottom, follow the path round to the left and keep on the bank to a wooden bridge. Cross the bridge to the right bank and follow the track sharp left as it climbs to a junction of tracks. Here go sharp right and up, zigzagging back and up to follow the woodland trail for about half a mile.
Soon the trail swings left and drops down towards the reservoir, but at a junction, turn first right and up a little climb, before swinging left down to meet the path on the reservoir bank. Turn right to a gate and then left over the cobbled reservoir embankment. As you approach the opposite end, through a metal gate, then left through a wooden gate and along the reservoir Eastern shore. Keep on until you come to the green metal bridge crossed earlier. Here, do not cross the bridge but turn sharp right, up the path through the woods. Retrace your steps to the gate, then right along the bridleway to the finish.
Well done !! That's the first run of the year out of the way!
